At St. Mary’s First School we consider that it is important for children who believe in the Catholic faith to take part in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. These Sacraments are a crucial part in a child’s journey of faith.
The children have a solid knowledge and understanding of how accepting part in these Sacraments accomplishes a stronger bond and relationship between themselves and God.
Children in Year 4 receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. The children start preparing for these Sacraments in Spring term. Preparation for the Sacraments are taught throughout RE lessons and are built upon during the course of regular meetings between school, parents, and the parish priest.
The children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the later Spring term and Holy Communion in Summer term. These Sacraments are widely celebrated by the entire school and parish community.
