We are currently running a consultation process regarding changing the age range of children at St Mary’s Catholic First School Hexham from 4-9 years to 3-9 years.
The provision proposed will be for 30 places for 3 year-olds – these places will be for children eligible for 15 hours of free early education or to parents/carers who wish to pay themselves for this. The aim of our Early Years provision is to prepare children for school readiness. The three-year-old provision will be part of the schools already existing Early Years setting.
We would like to hear the views of everyone associated with the academy. This includes children, parents and other local nurseries and childminders.
The consultation period will run until 3rd May 2021.
If you wish to comment, please do so by using one of the following methods:
- Email the school office with the subject heading ‘Consultation Response’ before 3 May 2021. The email address is ???? Helen

I am very proud to welcome you to St Mary’s Catholic First School.
St Mary’s has been educating children from its community since 1832 and is part of the Heavenfield Partnership which is a vibrant evangelising community. In our school we seek to create an inclusive community where everybody is valued and nurtured. People routinely comment on the friendly atmosphere that exists in the school but they also notice that it has a great sense of purpose.
At St Mary’s we are committed to the achievement of every single child regardless of his or her ability. I am proud to say that our children not only develop a growth mindset but make exceptional progress from their starting points and achieve impressive results as children progress through the Federation.
As a school we truly believe in strong relationships between home and school, setting the highest standards of behaviour and work ethic with strong parental support. Because by working together we will ensure the best outcomes for our pupils on their spiritual and academic journey.
We are fortunate that St Mary’s is set in one of the most beautiful parts of the Tyne Valley. It is a wonderful environment with modern facilities. If you are interested in applying for a place at our school, I would be delighted to show you around personally.
Mr. P. Naughton, Head Teacher
